In 2013 Northern Counties Golf Society was 25 years old. It was founded in 1988 by members of Northern Counties Old Boys Football Club, who were reaching their twilight football years and needed an alternative sport as a vehicle to satisfy their insatiable desire for competition as well as to continue the camaraderie and sportsmanship for which Counties was justifiably famous.
In recent years the society has expanded its horizons and now regularly visits golfing jewels across the continent of Europe including Ireland, Turkey, Spain and Portugal and boasts low handicap golfers of the highest calibre! However, despite the high quality of golf now on show at current counties gatherings, the one constant which brings members back for more fairway challenges time and again, and for which Counties is justifiably renowned, is the strong bonds of friendship forged, and developed over the years; which for some members have shone for the entire 25 years.
